Meeting Milestones in Sustainability

The Portgordon Community Trust has embarked on an incredible journey towards a more sustainable future, and we are thrilled to share their progress with you!

Their journey began with the creation of a now thriving community garden; a testament to the power of community spirit and green thumbs. The garden’s polycrubs harness the energy of the sun via solar panels and they conserve water resources by collecting rainwater, reducing waste and supporting responsible water use.

With funding from Local Energy Scotland’s CARES fund, the Trust has now made significant improvements to Portgordon’s Village Hall. This includes the installation of air-to-air source pumps for efficient heating, insulation in walls and ceilings to keep cozy, as well as upgraded windows that not only make the Hall warmer, but also reduce energy consumption.

I met up with Michelle Good, the Trust’s community development officer, when the air source heating was being installed. Her excitement and enthusiasm was so infectious that we both had to take a photo when the new heating system was switched on!

And there’s more to come. The Trust has recently secured a grant to upgrade the windows in the community hub, ensuring that they’re making the best use of energy and resources. ‘We recognise our obligation to lead the way in advancing sustainability initiatives and improvements,’ says Michelle.
