Take Action / People
Moray Climate Action Network supports community led climate action in our region. We want to encourage people across Moray to take meaningful steps towards tackling the climate and nature emergency - individually and collectively.
By acting now, we have a huge opportunity to work together towards a just transition for communities in Moray. Even a few small changes can help to protect future generations from the worst effects of climate change.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
Volunteer at a local community project
Giving some time as a volunteer at a local conservation or environmental project is a great way of taking meaningful action. Rolling your sleeves up and getting your hands in the earth is known to have huge physical and mental health benefits. It’s a great way of meeting people, developing new skills and sharing knowledge too. View our list of volunteering opportunities below.
Buy more locally grown produce
Moray has a wealth of wonderful fruit and veg produced locally by talented and innovative growers. By making better choices about where we get our food from, we can support local farmers, growers and producers while lowering our carbon emissions and reducing food miles.
Support an environmental charity
Being outdoors surrounded by nature is proven to be good for our physical and mental wellbeing. It makes us appreciate the natural world more too. Many of the organisations that manage these green spaces need your support. You can support nature and environmental charities in a variety of ways - through donations, patron schemes, volunteering or by organising group fundraising activities.
Start a climate conversation
The climate crisis can sometimes feel overwhelming - and this feeling of helplessness and frustration impacts on our mental health. Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away. Talk to friends and family about positive things you can do collectively to reduce carbon emissions - whether that’s at home, at work, or when you travel.
Bring renewable energy into the home
Many people harbour the dream of going off-grid to reduce energy costs and lower the risk of being exposed to power shortages. Many people are put off by the perceived cost - but renewable energy needn’t cost the earth From solar PV to solar thermal and air source heating systems, there are a wide range of renewable options available - and with a host of grants and loans on offer, you can make that dream a reality.
Grow your own fruit and veg
Growing your own is one of the best ways to lower your carbon footprint. It reduces food miles, cuts plastic packaging and lowers food waste. Organic food tastes better than supermarket produce. The process of growing from seed is also incredibly fulfilling and supports wellbeing. And you don’t need acres of space - even a small raised bed or a well-lit room can produce enough to supplement your diet.
